REHABILITATION

The Transitional Rehabilitation Home is part of a two-year multidisciplinary, rehabilitation program working to meet the basic needs of food, accommodation, education, medical care, counseling, emotional and spiritual nourishment of a child. It is our goal that within two years of living in TRH the child can either be reconciled with his/her family or found permanent housing through foster care or adoption. Dwelling Places TRH is not meant to be the stopping point for children but rather a conduit to rebuilding them spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

Babies/Girls’ Home: Accommodates girls ages 5-17 years old, and abandoned/high-risk babies ages 0-4 years old. The home has two resident wardens; one responsible for looking after the babies and the other in-charge of the girls. The home also accommodates an interim school which all the children attend before they are placed in mainstream schools.

Boys’ Home: Accommodates boys ages 5-16 years old. The home has one resident warden. There is currently xxx boys living at our boys home.

Since many of the children in TRH are directly from the streets the wardens and Home Administrator are responsible for teaching them good hygiene, washing/bathing, how to clean their clothes, table manners, etc.

Nutrition & Health: The goal of the TRH is to raise spiritually, physically and mentally healthy children through providing a balanced diet, health and holistic care. We are able to provide a balanced diet through the relationships we have with external food suppliers. The diet varies from eggs, bananas, vegetables, fruits, to meat, rice, carrots, fish, and peas. The main dish, however, remains maize mill and beans (locally referred to as posho and beans). Since last year, we have been concentrating on developing our farmland in Buloba. This land was purchased in order to increase the food supply for TRH at a minimal cost.

TRH has a full-time nurse that lives at Boys’ Home that is able to treat common illnesses like colds, fevers, and diarrhea. We network with local health institutions for further care if necessary.

The Holistic care program was started to address the individual needs of each child. Staff members are assigned 2-4 children that they will be responsible to meet with on a regular basis during the child’s stay at TRH. These staff members become the link between the children and their families and will work to resettle the children back with their families.

It’s through these basic provisions that we are able to show Christ’s love to the children in our care and to enable them to become responsible adults.
