Children who enter the Dwelling Places program come to
us from broken homes, living on the streets, or have been
abandoned. These children have suffered, often times living
in abject poverty for a number of years.
The spiritual welfare department works to show
them Jesus loves them before telling them He loves them.
It is our desire that each child in our care would come
to the saving knowledge as Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
And we commit to sharing the gospel with each child but
only after showing them Jesus’ love by offering them
a place to rest their head, a place to call home, food and
loving care.
Spiritual Welfare is really about changing a person’s
heart and thus changing their attitude form the inside out.
It is part of the rehabilitation process to teach each child
their worth in Christ. We have four main activities to assist
with this goal:
(1) Weekly Fellowship/Bible Study
– Twice a week the spiritual welfare department
meets with the interim and home school children for a time
of fellowship, bible study and stories.
(2) Friendship Club –
Every Saturday from 2-4pm the Dwelling Places children and
children from the community gather at a local church for
a time of fellowship and fun. The day consists of games,
songs, snacks, Bible story, quizzes, dramas and more. The
purpose of Friendship Club is to encourage Dwelling Places
children to socialize with people outside the home, to reach
children in our surrounding community with the gospel, and
to identify other needy children.
(3) Youth Club – Every
Saturday from 4-5pm for children 13 years or older. Youth
Club exists to mentor and teach life skills through Biblical
principles. There are games and songs but the majority of
the time is spent on Bible study and educational films.
(4) Lunch Hour Fellowship –
The office staff meets during lunch on Wednesdays for a
time of praise and worship and a short Bible study.
